View of setting Venus

“What’s that bright object in the sky over there?”, I asked, pointing to the west. It was around 9:40 pm and most guests had retired into their cottages at the Galibore nature camp. We were by the river bank, star gazing. The object was pretty bright and yellowish. It had to be Venus. At this time of the year, Venus sets about 3 to 4 hours after the sun sets.

Other than the bright planet, a lots of stars can be seen here, although the hazy clouds play bit of a spoilsport. The light on the right side is from a solitary lamp at the dining area of the camp.

There’s a powerful feeling to spend time gazing at the night sky. A sort of connection to our earliest ancestors, for whom a lot of activities were guided by the twinklers up above in the sky. Its something that makes me feel connected to the universe and all things natural, and at the same time dwarfs me, making me feel so infinitesimally small in the grand scheme of things.
