Cellular Jail, Port Blair

The cellular jail in Port Blair, was an erstwhile prison from the British colonial times. Known as Kaala Paani back then, it was used to cast off political prisoners the remote Andaman and Nicobar islands. Today, it is maintained as a national memorial. Far away from the mainland and nothing but unforgiving waters for thousands of miles on all sides, these prisons hold a dark past – one that is starkly brought to life in the popular light and sound show every evening.

I won’t get into a long narrative on this – instead, I present a set of pictures from my visit to this place.
